Notes for Edmund Henkels Jr. ROGERS

Edmund H. Rogers Jr Jan. 18, 1923 - Feb. 27, 2013. Known as Roddy, was born in Philadelphia, where he attended the William Penn Charter School and graduated from St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island. Roddy served in the 261st. Infantry, 65th Division Army in WW II as a 1st. Lieutenant, spending much of his military service in Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star amongst other medals. After the war, Roddy finished his education at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of The Mask and Wig Club and St. Anthony Hall. Upon graduating, Roddy joined WFIL as one of the first directors in the exciting early years of television. Eventually Roddy left Philadelphia to work with N.W. Ayer Advertising Co. in New York City. He was then transferred to Los Angeles to head up their west coast office. After retiring from N.W. Ayer, he opened "E.H. Rogers & Company Advertising", eventually moving his office and residence to Santa Barbara. Although he thrived as a long time resident of California, he remained a Philadelphian at heart. Roddy looked forward to frequent visits to the east coast, especially the family cottage at the seashore in Stone Harbor. Roddy and his wife Joyce enjoyed many interesting and adventurous travels. Roddy was quite a "raconteur" with a wide-ranging intellect that was active until the end. He was known for his strong opinions and even more for the eloquence with which he expressed himself in his frequent emails to family members and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hendren Rogers, his daughter, Brooke Rogers Coldren, son-in-law, Robert Sawyer Coldren, and grandchildren, Robert Spencer Coldren and Maclay Catherine Coldren. He is predeceased by his daughter, Dr. Galen Wells Rogers (1993).
