Notes for Robert Thompson CORNWELL

began as a teacher, was an officer in the Union Army, captured and incarcerated in the infamous Libby Prison in Richmond, VA and was exchanged. Served as Provost Marshal of the Third Division, VI Corps operating in the Shenandoah. He took up residence in West Chester after the war and studied for the Bar. Among his other activities, he was a member of the Board of Directors of The Oaklands Cemetery. His grandson, Gibbons G. Cornwell, also served on the Board and his great grandson, Moses Cornwell, is currently on the Board.
