Notes for William Sharpless Derrick Jr. WOODS

WOODS, William Sharpless Derrick "Chip" Jr., 80, died October 3, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. Chip was born in New York, N.Y., March 9, 1930, the son of the late Page and William Sharpless Derrick Woods (formerly of the law firm of McGuire, Woods, and Battle of Richmond) and was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Lisbeth Male Woods. He graduated from St. Christopher's in Richmond and was a 1953 graduate of VMI. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, Mr. Woods graduated from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia in 1958. Chip accepted a position with Union Camp Corporation in Franklin, where he and Lisbeth made their home, until Chip was promoted and moved to Smoke Rise, N.J. Chip retired as a senior vice president from Union Camp in 1990 and relocated to Virginia Beach, where he and Lisbeth became realtors with Long & Foster. In 1999, they moved back to Franklin. Above all, he was a loving husband, awesome father and father-in-law, and a great granddaddy; a true sweetheart! Survivors include Chip's brother, Montgomery Bird Woods of Charlottesville; son, William Sharpless Derrick Woods III and wife, Nancy Guyer Woods, of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; daughter, Marbara Woods Morris and son-in-law, Terry Allen Morris, of Suffolk; son, Wilton Reid Woods of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Travis Gilmore Woods and Rebecca Morgan Woods; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Wright Funeral Home, with the Reverend Ben R. Duffey officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
