Notes for William IV BUTLER

William Butler IV, 72, of West Chester, passed away on May 20th at the age of 72.
He was a lifelong resident of West Chester and the son of William Butler III and Nell Butler Darlington.
A cum laude graduate of the Haverford School, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Bill remained a practicing attorney and highly regarded mediator until his death. Bill also found time to volunteer with organizations such as Compeer, dedicated to helping those recovering from mental illness, and Peacemaker Ministries.
Throughout his life, his passion for music led to his involvement in groups as diverse as the Opera Delaware Chorus and the Men and Boys' Choirs at both Holy Trinity in West Chester and the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge.
Prior to his career in law, he was voted the "Social Lion" at the Haverford School, was a member of Cottage Club and played for a national championship rugby team while at Princeton. His rugby prowess is believed to be what caught the attention of his wife of 47 years, Marilyn.
Bill is survived by Marilyn; his sons Scott and Glen, both military officers; five grandchildren; and his sister Caroline.
