Notes for George W. WALTER

George W. Walter, 100, formerly of Steelville, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Tel Hai Retirement Community.
He was the husband of the late Anna Thorne Walter, who passed away on Sept. 6, 1997.
He was born in Christiana, son of the late B.F. and Eleanor Wallace Walter.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Gap.
He held the position of principal of Walter & Jackson Inc. of Christiana.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He was a civil engineer, graduating from Penn State.
He loved rock polishing and traveling.
Surviving is a son, J. Michael, husband of Stephanie A. Smith Walter of Steelville; and two grandchildren, Stephen M. and Christy L. Walter.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles and Robert Walter, and Jean Drowne.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at the Sadsbury Friends Meeting House, 1093 Simmontown Road, Gap, with a time to greet the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Pastor Charlie Walter will be officiating.
There will also be a time to greet the family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, at the Shivery Funeral Home Inc., 111 Elizabeth St., Christiana.
Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
