Notes for Emilie BAIRD

Emilie B. McIlvain of Downingtown Emilie B. McIlvain, 92, of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Friends Home of Kennett Square. She was the wife of the late Robert M. McIlvain, Sr. with whom she shared 65 years of marriage with prior to his passing in 2006. Born in Bryn Mawr, she was the daughter of the late Donald G. Baird and Emilie Wagner Baird. She was a homemaker who worked as a nurse's aide at the Chester County Hospital and Downingtown VNA during WWII. She taught at the West Chester Friends School. She was a member of the Downingtown VNA Board, Barkley Friends Board, Valley Garden Club, League of Women Voters, Chester County Hospital Auxiliary, deeply involved in Chester County Day, West Chester Friends School where she was past President of the PTA, and an active member of the Downingtown Friends Meeting. Mrs. McIlvain enjoyed creative writing, and enjoyed reading and had a great knowledge of English history. She also enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, and gardening. She is survived by her son, Robert M. McIlvain, Jr. and his wife Carol of Laurel, N.Y.; daughter, Emilie M. Barber and her husband Charles of Westtown. She is also survived by three grandchildren, C. Joseph Barber of Philadelphia, Jennifer M. DeMaula and her husband Matthew of Flanders, N.Y., Robert M. McIlvain III of Cutchogue, N.Y. She was predeceased by one sister, Ann B. Hollingsworth; and one granddaughter, Lee Harlan Barber. Memorial Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Downingtown Friends Meeting, 800 E Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Interment will be private.
