Notes for Wayne H. JEFFERIS

Wayne H. Jefferis Service station owner, 93
Wayne H. Jefferis, 93, formerly of West Chester, a retired service station owner who restored antique furniture, died Saturday at Manor Care Nursing Home in Allentown.
For 35 years, until 1978, Mr. Jefferis owned Jefferis Sunoco Station on Gay Street in West Chester. He had previously owned a gas station in Exton.
After retiring, he built reproductions of antique furniture, including highboys and grandfather clocks, and one-of-a-kind items such as chairs made to clients' measurements, his son William said. He never advertised, his son said; his reputation for fine craftsmanship grew by word of mouth.
Mr. Jefferis graduated from West Chester High School and worked in area gas stations before opening his own business.
His wife of more than 60 years, Dorothy McMichael Jefferis, died in 2001. In addition to his son, he is survived by a sister and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Rosedale Friends Cemetery, Rosedale Avenue and South New Street, West Chester.
