Notes for Charles Pennington Jr. BAKER

Memorial service for Charles P. "Jim" Baker, 77, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave., St. Charles, with Dr. C. Alfred Patten officiating. Born Oct. 20, 1926, in Ambler, Penn., the son of Charles Pennington Sr. and Clara (nee Blessing) Baker, he died Thursday, March 18, 2004. Jim began his career as a sales execute in the specialized fastener business where he patented two innovations related to the construction and transportation industries. An entrepreneur, Jim founded a series of startup ventures over three decades including: Baker Cash Register, Infotronx and Labor Resource Management. In 1991 he was named a finalist in Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch. During World War II, Jim served in the Navy SeeBees in the South Pacific. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann (nee Hickey); his children, Todd (Linda) Baker of St. Charles, Wade (Karen) Baker of Morristown, N.J., Mark (Lisa) Baker of Danville, Calif., Dawn Miller of Hinsdale and Kyle (William) Hauser of Geneva; his grandchildren, Todd (Tonya) Baker, Amanda (Steve) Staines, Macy Baker, Brad (Amanda) Baker, Grant Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Keenan (Deanna) Baker, Mercedes Baker, MacKenzie Baker, Russell Miller, Ashley Miller, Justin Hauser and Nicholas Hauser; his great-grandchildren, Amber Staines, Aspen Baker and Payton Baker; his sister, Jeanette Wickersham of Kennett Square, Penn.; and by his brother, Robert (Patrick) Baker of Roaring Branch, Penn. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968, the American Diabetes Association, 30 N.
