Notes for William Benjamin Jr. HAINES

William B. Haines Jr., 83, of West Chester, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, following a battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of West Chester, Mr. Haines was the son of the late William B. Haines Sr. and Frances Hause Haines.
After graduating from West Chester High School in 1943, Mr. Haines joined the U.S. Navy and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II.
He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1950 and joined McFarland and Haines Insurance Agency, then owned by his father and grandfather.
Mr. Haines served for many years on the board of the West Chester Building and Loan, the Chester County Federal Savings and Loan, and Commonwealth Federal Savings Bank.
He was a lifelong member of the West Chester Golf and Country Club, and served on the board of governors as secretary and then treasurer.
An avid golfer, Mr. Haines began playing golf at the age of 8, was runner-up in the club championship at age 16 and went on to win the event four times. He was recently awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the country club.
Mr. Haines enjoyed sports, traveling and spending time in Stone Harbor, N.J., with his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Gwendolyn Walley Haines; three daughters, Susan Casso Rogers, wife of Robert, Kathryn H. White, wife of Charles, and Barbara H. Triolo, wife of Salvatore; two granddaughters, Gwendolyn and Caroline White; and one grandson, JD Triolo.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will be private.
