Notes for Nancy J. HEALD

Nancy Heald Zawicki, age 73, of North Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 18, 2011, after her 21 year battle with cancer. She fought with grace and courage and will always be remembered for her positive attitude. She was an inspiration to all.

Born in Wilmington, Nancy was the daughter of the late George M. and Myrtle Jester Heald. She was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School Class of '55 and was actively involved in her class reunions, making them special and memorable for her classmates every five years. As a University of Delaware graduate, Nancy was a fan of the Blue Hens football and women's basketball teams. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Nancy loved gardening, tended to her variety of plants and flowers with great care and volunteered at the Wilmington Flower Market for many years. As an early recycler, she supported the Mount Pleasant High School Band Boosters and worked on their paper and glass recycling drives. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and her close friends. Nancy's family will miss their "Mom-Mom" dearly, but will cherish all of the activities and hobbies that she shared and passed along to them, just as she appreciated and supported the things that each of them loved.

Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jim; children, Cheryl Zawicki Baarsma, James D. and wife Maryann, Glenn and wife Kathy , and Andrea LaGrossa and husband Andrew; grandchildren Ryan, Jonathan, Valerie, Alessia, Erica, and Nicolas. Also surviving is her sister, Jean Couch, and nieces Kathy, Beverly and Carol and their children.

The family is especially grateful to Dr. Timothy Wozniak and truly appreciates all of the care and support from the nurses and staff at the Helen Graham Center and Christiana Hospital, as well as Compassionate Care Hospice.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 24 from 10-11 am, at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. The interment will be private.
