Notes for Barbara Elizabeth COPE
Barbara Elizabeth Lesley (Cope) of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. She was 69.
Mrs. Lesley was born on May 9, 1944, in West Grove, PA, the daughter of the late Phillip and Grace Cope.
She grew up in Lincoln University, PA and graduated from Oxford High School in 1962, Gettysburg College in 1966, and Drexel University in 1967.
In 1968, she married her husband Sem Joseph Lesley. They spent 45 happy years together.
Barbara was employed as a Reference Librarian for the University of Delaware and as the Elementary School Librarian for the Smyrna School District, from which she retired after 20 years of service.
At home, she enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and bird watching at Bombay Hook. She traveling extensively with her family throughout the world. She was an avid reader, student of history, and was passionate about family genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sem.
She is survived by 3 sons, Matthew Phillip Lesley and his wife, Amy, Joseph Allen Lesley and his wife, Kimberly, and John Brubaker Lesley and his wife, Katherine; her grandson, Jacob; and 2 granddaughters, Ava and Emma.
Burial will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2013 at 11 am at New London Cemetery in New London, PA.
