Notes for James William LUKENS

James Willie Lukens, 86, who held interests in real estate and banks, died Tuesday at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He lived in Wallingford, Delaware County, and for years maintained a home in Naples, Fla.
A partner in the firm of Sweeney & Lukens, he was active in the real estate business for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Delaware County Board of Realtors and served on the boards of directors of the First National Bank of Chester and Fidelity Bank.
He was a member of the Union League and of the Swarthmore Friends Meeting.
Born in Woodlyn, he was a graduate of Ridley Park High School and attended Lafayette and Swarthmore Colleges. When World War I broke out, he enlisted and served as a naval aviator.
Surviving are his wife, Winnifred Sloan Lukens; son, James Jr.; daughters, Phebe Guckes, Winnifred Wistar Mains and Deborah Courtney; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Elizabeth Lukens Crothers.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Swarthmore Friends Meeting. A reception will follow in the adjoining Whittier House. Contributions may be made in his name to the Graduate Hospital Parkinson's Disease Center, Suite 900, 19th and Lombard Streets, Philadelphia 19146.
