Notes for Algernon ROBERTS

ALGERNON ROBERTS, 83, a retired insurance executive, died Wednesday at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, a retirement community where he lived.
Mr. Roberts was born in Bala Cynwyd, attended St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., and graduated from Princeton University. During World War II, he was a fighter controller with the 12th Air Force in the Mediterranean. He was awarded a Bronze Star and rose to the rank of captain.
After the war, he joined the Insurance Co. of North America and was named manager of the company's regional processing center in Springfield, Mass. He returned to Philadelphia in 1970 as director of the INA Foundation.
After retiring in 1973, he served as vice president of the Hospital Survey Committee, a nonprofit, health-care-planning agency. In recent years, he volunteered at Bryn Mawr Hospital and as a driver with Wheels Inc.
He was a former trustee of Bryn Mawr Hospital; a member of The Rabbit, a private men's gourmet cooking club, and a former member of Gulph Mills Golf Club.
Survivors: his wife, Elizabeth Kurtz Roberts; daughters, Rosalinda R. Madara and Letitia; a son, Isaac W. 2d; three grandchildren; three brothers, and a sister.
Services: 10:30 a.m. today, Chapel of Old St. David's Church, Valley Forge Road, Wayne; burial, private.
