Notes for Mary Louise DALLETT

Mary Louise Dallett Darlington, 98, who taught for 25 years in various school districts, died of respiratory failure Monday at Barclay Friends, a nursing home in West Chester. She had lived in West Chester.
Early in her career, Mrs. Darlington taught junior high school in Chambersburg, Pa., and in Glen Ridge, N.J., for a total of five years.
She left teaching in 1929 to marry and raise a family. After relocating to Denver, where her husband worked for a period, Mrs. Darlington returned to the area and resumed teaching. She taught fourth grade for 20 years. She taught in the Kennett Square Consolidated School District and later in the West Chester Area School District - at Westtown and Thornbury Elementary Schools - before retiring in 1970.
She earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1923 from Goucher College in Baltimore.
Born in Cheyney, in a home built in 1877 by her grandfather, Mrs. Darlington spent retirement volunteering for historical societies, the Girl Scouts, senior citizens and the United Way. She also taught English as a second language to immigrant mothers in their homes.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothea D. Troutman, Mayland D. Crosson and Martha D. Russell; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her husband of 44 years, David S., died in 1973.
A viewing will begin at 7 p.m. today at Boyd Funeral Home, Church and Miner Streets, West Chester. Services will begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Middletown Preparative Friends Meeting, Old Middletown Road near Route 352, Middletown. Burial will be at adjacent Cumberland Cemetery.
