Notes for Alphonsus KIRK

Alphonsus, son of Roger and Elizabeth Kirk of Lurgan, Ireland came to America in 1689, then settled in New Castle Co. Centre Twp., near Brandywine Creek. He was married to Abibail Sharpley of Shilpot Creek on the 23'rd day of 12'th month, (that is not Dec), 1692 at Brandywine Hundred, New Castle. They were married at her parents home.
They settled on a farm a half mile from Centre Meeting House, where they would reside the rest of their lives.
They were some of the early settlers of Delaware. He had become a Quaker or Society of Friends before emigrating to the colonies as an unmarried man.

per the following parental release "we are willing our son Alphonsus should take this journey, and if it be his portion to marry we do give our consent, provided it be to a Friend, and in unity with Friends, according to the order of the Truth".
It is reported that he set ashore in Jamestown, but settled in Delaware, then part of PA. First he and his wife were members of Newark Meeting house, but later he his wife helped establish Centre Meeting house nearer their home.
