Notes for T. Elwood BARTRAM

T. Ellwood acquired his early education in the Friends' School at Darby and then entered his business career as a saleman in a country store at Paschallville upon completing his studies. Soon he became connected with the clothing trade at Second & Market streets in Philadelphia. After a year he became connected with the manufacture of artificial slate. After a year and a half he came to Upper Darby and joined S.S. Powell in the conduct of the coal and lumber business, under the firm name of Bartram & Powell.
After six years his brother Samuel purchased Mr. Powell's interest. Subsequently the partnership was disolved and T. Ellwood retained possession of the lumber business until 1883 when he sold out to J. Alfred Bartram. He then purchased a farm and successfully raised vegetables until 1893, then he turned to floriculture and raised roses for market.
He served as auditor for one year for his township. His religious views are with the Society of Friends.
