Anna was born to Joshua Canby Gilpin and Sarah Ann Gilpin, who were cousins. Joshua and Sarah's fathers were brothers Bernard and Joseph Gilpin, the sons of Sarah Gregg (1743-1801) and Gideon Gilpin (1738-1825) of Birmingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Anna was married to Samuel Willson of Rockville, Maryland, on Jan 1, 1857. Samuel was born on the Rockville family farm and lived all his life there as a prosperous farmer. Anna and Samuel had five children.
